What is Specific Gravity of Cement | How to Calculate Specific Gravity of Cement | Specific Gravity Formula |

The specific gravity is generally referred to as the ratio based on the weight of a given volume of substance material and weight of an equal volume of water at fixed temperature. This applies also to Portland cement.

The Portland cement has a specific gravity value of 3.1 to 3.15 g/cc . This value determines that cement is 3.1 to 3.15 times heavier than water of same volume, and it will sink and dissolve in the water because of its specific gravity.

There are many pores in cement and when it is hydrated with water, the value may go up to 3.19 g/cc, when the specific gravity of cement reaches 3.19, the cement goes under a chemical reaction and the pores are filled. This process is called the hydration process of cement.

Specific Gravity values of different types of cement

Portland Cement 3.1 to 3.15 g/cc

Portland Pozzolana Cement 2.90 g/cc

Equipment Required for Cement Specific Gravity Test

The following equipment is required to carry out the cement specific gravity test.

  1. Lecharterlier Flask ( 250 ml)
  2. Weighing balance (accuracy 0.1 g)
  3. Kerosene ( without water)
  4. Portland cement

Test Procedure:

The specific gravity test has four procedures to determine the specific gravity of ordinary Portland cement as under;

  1. Make sure the flask is dried properly before the test procedure, now the weight of the empty flask and denoted as W1.
  2. Second step will be to fill the flask until the weight reaches the 50g, the flask should be closed properly with a stopper. This will be denoted as W2.
  3. Now add kerosene and fill the flask until the top, shake the flask and make sure there are no bubbles, weigh the flask with cement and kerosene in it. It will be denoted as W3.
  4. In the fourth step, empty the bottle and fill it with kerosene, and weigh the flask bottle, it will be indicated as W4.

vacuum concrete

Vacuum Concrete | Application of Vacuum Concrete | Advantages of Vacuum Concrete | Vacuum Concrete Process

Vacuum Concrete is the type of concrete where excess water is removed by vacuum pressure after the concrete pressure in the structure. Water cement ratio is always crucial for concrete, therefore, we always enforce the proportional value of water and cement to achieve higher strength.

The chemical process of cement with water requires a wc ratio of less than 0.38, whereas the adopted wc ratio is much higher because of the workability requirements.

Flat Slab

What is Flat slab? 4 Types of Flat Slab & Detailed Guide

A Flat slab is a two way reinforced concrete slab supported directly by RCC columns without the use of support beams. The shear load of the slab is directly transferred to the RCC column supports. The flat plate slab framing system provides slabs of uniform thickness. This system, either includes “ Drop Panels “ or “ Column Capitals” to resist heavy loads and allow longer spans. Drop panels are usually two times the thickness of slab or as per the design.

Concrete Slump Test | Cone Slump Test | Procedure of Test

The concrete slump test is also known as the slump cone test of fresh concrete. It is the easiest way to determine the workability & consistency of fresh concrete prior to pouring. The values obtained from the concrete slump test helps to correct the concrete mix according to the workability required. The concrete slump test can be carried out in the lab as well as on the construction site.

Building construction process

How Building Construction Process Works? | Basic Construction Guide 2022

The Building Construction process varies from one structure to another, based on requirements, size, the complexity of structure, building function, building materials, and execution of the project.

There are few other factors, such as soil type, weather conditions, construction material availability, availability of local skilled and unskilled workers, and sufficient construction tools to execute the project. These factors would affect the building construction process.

Quality Control in Construction | 3 Components of Quality Management

What is Quality Control In Construction?

Quality Control in Construction is One of the important pillars of the project delivery process. The management of the quality control works of a product or service related to construction is called Quality Control in Construction.

The project specifications explain the quality standards for the construction project and by reference become a part of the contract between the Client (the project owner) and the contractor.

What is Lap Length | Why Lap Length is Provide | 2 Safe Methods to Calculate Lap Length

Lap length is provided to overlap two rebars in the structural elements such as Columns, Beam and Slab. Lap length is often confused with Development Length. But in fact, both terminologies are different and used in different locations.

During the construction process, rebar length may not be sufficient to cover the length of structure length, in this case, we overlap do rebars to get the desired results, the length of two rebars lapping each other is called lap length.
